Overview

This year’s competition is aligning with our conference theme of "Business, Biosecurity & Beehives" and the VAA’s broader campaign of "We're Beekeepers” and “I’m a Beekeeper”. We are simplifying the entry process by going entirely digital and focusing entries around clear, engaging themes whilst honouring past categories such as Native Flora, Introduced Flora, Apiary, Equipment, Portrait of a Honey Bee, and Historical Beekeeping.

I'm a Beekeeper 

A personal perspective. Portraits of beekeepers at work, moments between a beekeeper and their bees, close-up shots of individual craftsmanship, or even detailed interactions with honey bees themselves.

We’re Beekeepers 

Showcasing the spirit of teamwork and collective effort that defines our industry. This could include photos of apiaries in operation, working with equipment, moments of collaboration, or historical beekeeping activities.

The Home of Victoria’s Beekeepers 

Celebrating the environments that sustain bees and beekeepers — from landscapes full of native flora to apiaries nestled in the countryside, orchards in bloom, or the beauty of the seasons in beekeeping life.

Submission details

Entry Dimensions:

Entry Format:

Unlimited photograph per category per entrant.

A optional short caption (maximum 50 words) to accompany each entry.

Entry Process:

You must be a member and logged in to submit an entry.  Click on the category you wish to enter and then click the Upload button to upload your entry. The following file formats are supported: .jpg, .gif, .png and .tif. The maximum file size of each photo is 100 MB and you can submit up to 5 files at a time.

To add a caption, click on the image within the album and then click the Add caption link that appears below the photo on the individual photo page. You can only add captions to your own photos.

To view a larger version of a photo, click the thumbnail within the photo album. On the individual photo page, the photo will be displayed as close to full size as can fit on the page. Above the image, you will see the date the image was uploaded, as well as the name of the member who uploaded it.

Entries to be uploaded, no later than noon Thursday 12th June 2025.

NB: Entries must be your own photos and by entering you agree to the VAA using your photo(s) in promotional communications.

Technical Quality (focus, lighting, composition) (35%)

Composition (35%)

Subject Relevance to Category Theme (20%)

Overall Impact (storytelling and feeling) (10%)

Judging Panel:

Judges with professional experience in photography, media, or apiculture.

Prizes:

Winners in each category to receive certificates.
