On Friday we received the sad news of the passing of one of our Life Members, Laurie Braybrook. A long-standing member of our association, Laurie was well respected for his commitment to the association and beekeeping. Some of Laurie’s proud achievements are the establishment of the VAA Library Trust and the Royal Melbourne Show Queen Bee Competition. Many beekeepers will have fond memories of Laurie’s contribution to meetings and annual conferences. At the age of ninety-eight he registered for our conference in July, had his motel room booked but was forced to cancel due to poor health. He became the Victorian Senior Apiary Officer in 1974 and held that position for twenty-six years till his retirement in 1990.

Condolences to Pam, Collin, Laurelle and extended family.

Laurie, we salute you, rest in peace.

    John van Weeghel
    President, VAA

A service to celebrate the life of Larie will be held on Thursday 21 September at the Tuckers Funerals Chapel, corner Torquay and Pioneer Rd, Grovedale.
